Seeks intervention for immediate availability of Bandwidth
Port Blair, June 26: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, called on the Union Minister for Communication & IT, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad on 26th June 2014, at New Delhi. He apprised the Minister of the serious problems of connectivity and bandwidth in the Islands. He also explained to the Minister that the present mode of telecommunications is only through Satellite, which has limitations in providing adequate bandwidth in the Islands.
He also informed the Minister that BSNL is able to provide only 5% of our required bandwidth. He sought the intervention of the Minister for issuing directions for hiring transponders from foreign Satellites as the facilities on INSAT 3C are inadequate.
He also sought the intervention on the implementation of the optical undersea fibre cable. The Minister assured that he would look into these matters both long-term and short-term measures to address the problem of connectivity and bandwidth for the people of the Islands. This will give a great boost to IT and IT related sectors.
