Port Blair, June 25: The Veer Savarkar Airport has been declared as an International Airport by the Government of India a long back but till date no action has yet been taken for its modification and modernization like an international Airport of other such Airports at mainland.
Hence the PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has drawn the attention of the Lt Governor towards the fact and has stated in his letter that the Govt of India had already sanctioned a good amount of fund for the purpose but the work remains standstill till date. The tourists get shocked to believe it as an international Airport after landing here from International airports of Kolkata and Chennai.
Due to insufficient place in side, tourists feel suffocated during the peak season due to heave rush of passengers. So, Kuldeep has earnestly requested the Administrator to kindly look into the matter so that the work of modernization and modification of the airport is started at the earliest and the Islands get Veer Savarkar International Airport in its actual meaning where night flights can land and take off, number of flights may increase due to which tourist inflow may increase and AN Administration gets good amount of exchequer which may be spent for other developmental works of the islands and a large number of unemployed youths may get jobs directly and indirectly.
