Port Blair, June 22: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which is facing the problem of very slow internet due to failure of INSAT 3E , is hoping to get additional bandwidth from ISRO soon.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha recently the Chief General Manager of BSNL’s Andaman and Nicobar Telecom Circle, Mr. V Raju today said that the permanent solution of the slow internet problem will come around October and November when BSNL will fetch some additional bandwidth from ISRO’s G Sat 16 Satellite.
“Andaman and Nicobar Administration is also pushing Department of Telecom for a permanent solution to this problem. In the meantime for the temporary relief BSNL is trying to get a temporary bandwidth from the satellites of Malaysia and Thailand through ISRO, which will provide relief to the Islanders within a month,” the CGM added.
Earlier, on 23 March 2014 it was reported that one of the two satellites, providing internet to Andamans, INSAT 3E had developed signs of ageing and would go out of service any time.
Subsequently, on 3 April, 2014, INSAT 3E became unavailable for any further service.
Presently Andaman is dependent solely on INSAT 3C, which is much older than INSAT 3E.
