Port Blair, May 02: It has been reported that during the recent expedition of a team of experts and senior officials of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to the Sentinelese Island, the team had thrown coconuts in sea, which were collected by the Sentinelese tribes. During the entire expedition they managed to reach very close to the Island and they recorded that the tribes were showing friendly gestures and were not hostile at all, unlike the common beliefs.
Though it was a good sign for the team but for the safety of the tribes this is dangerous. The Tribes were till now safe because they were hostile and they were protecting their land. If the tribes drop their hostility then tomorrow they will have to face intrusion threat from poachers or may be pirates.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Secretary of Tribal Welfare Mr. Theva Nithi Dhas recently accepted that lack of hostility is not a good news for the safety of the tribes in the lonely Island.
Till now there was no need to protect the shores of Sentinel Island but after this report the Administration must make sure that Coast Guard and Naval Ships patrol around the Island more often to protect the tribes from Poachers attacks. There is also need to conduct aerial survey and circumnavigation of the Islands by Administraiton.
