Port Blair, Apr 30: Police have seized huge number of ganja plants and arrested one person in Little Andaman on Wednesday. This is a major seizure of illicit ganja plant in the Islands in recent time.
Based on information that one Anil Bala has grown ganja plants illegally on his land situated at RK Pur (Hut Bay) a police team of PS Hut Bay comprising of SI AK Singh, SHO, SI S. Kannan, HC/ VM Prasad, PCs/Vinay Kumar, Manoranjan, LPC/Rispa, HG/Shiv Kumar and HG/VishwajitRai headed by Shri B. Saigal, Dy.SP (Havelock) camped at Hut Bay raided the site in the early morning of 30th April and conducted extensive search of the area. Ganja plants were found at two places adjacent to the house of Anil Bala. These plants had been grown also with other plants resembling Ganja Plants to evade detection. After observing all the codal formalities in presence of independent witnesses, 13 nos. ganja plants were uprooted and seized. The heights of the seized ganja plants are about 6 feet, matured and ready to harvest.
Accused Anil Bala S/o Late Anondo Bala, cultivator R/o RK Pur, Little Andaman was arrested from the spot and a case vide FIR No. 37/14 U/s 20 (a) (i) NDPS Act 1985 was registered at PS Hut Bay against him for growing ganja plants illegally. He is being produced before the Court for judicial remand.
