Port Blair, Mar 20: UNNATI in association with Line Departments, Local Administration and Tribal Council organizing food processing training on Coconut and Fish based products. There is good scope for value addition of Coconuts which are abundantly available in these islands, therefore, UNNATI first started training during 2006-07 on coconut based products like Coconut Jam and Sweets with the support of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi and was found successful, therefore, UNNATI is making efforts to popularized these products among Islanders.
The Self Help Groups members trained by UNNATI in coconut based products are also now being utilized by other agencies to popularize the products. Therefore UNNATI intend to popularize coconut products among tribal of Nicobar District under a special Eni-India Ltd / ONGC supported project keeping these objectives in view 40 tribal candidates were identified at Car Nicobar and they will be trained by the Food Technologist and trainer of UNNATI. The training will be inaugurated by Shri. Aberdeen Blair, Tribal Chief, Car Nicobar on 21-03-2012 at Perka village in Car Nicobar.
