Port Blair, Mar 20: The A&N State Social Welfare Board organized a day long Orientation Training Programme for aided voluntary organizations at its conference hall on 20th March’ 2012 at 10.00 am. The training programme aimed at creating resource person and developing leadership among the Mahila Mandals and voluntary institutions so that they can further enhance the level of awareness among the women by conducting camps in their respective area. Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, Director Social Welfare, A&N Admn., graced the function as Chief Guest and inaugurated the Orientation Training Programme by lighting the traditional oil lamp. Kumari. Sumi, a Visually challenged Student of Model School presented a welcome song which was appreciated by one and all.
Addressing the women participant, Dr. V. Krishnamurthy said that Social Welfare Board is doing commendable job for the upliftment of the women and children and handicapped in these islands. The Board not only shows the way to the women to live in a dignified life but also helps them in raising their Socio-economic status, he added.
On arrival of the chief guest, Smti. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N Social Welfare Board welcomed the Chief Guest by presenting the bouquets. In her welcome address she said that such leadership training will also be organized in North & Middle Andaman District on 23rd March’ 2012 for aided voluntary organizations at Mayabunder.
Speaking on the topic “Women and Child Care” Dr. Anjum Ara, Gynecologist (CHS), Directorate of Health Services said that anemia and blood pressure of the pregnant women monitored and controlled reduces complication of maternal morbidity and mortality she also explained about HIV, mammography, antenatal checkup. She has also given an example if mother possess better health entire family will have a good health. She emphasized the delivery of child should not take place in home; they may get the help of hospital.
Speaking on the topic “Protection of Women” Ms. Jennifer, Inspector, Women Cell of Police Dept., said that women should not feel unprotected as there are many laws to safeguard their interest, which she said are being implemented by the police department. She also explained about the Women Protection Act- 2005.
Mrs. Sunanda Biswas, Representative from Directorate of Agriculture, Dr. Ajay Verma, Sr. Veterinary Surgeon from Animal Husbandry Department, Shri. G. Anand Krishna, DGM, NABARD and Shri. Prasan Mallick, IPO, representative of Industry Dept., explained in detailed about the scheme/training available in the department for the benefit of women.
About 50 participants from various aided Voluntary Organization attend the training programme. The afternoon session started with the speech by Dr. A. Philipose, Project Officer, A & N SWB. He explained about the scheme of the State Board.
During the interaction session the functionary were explained about e-AWADEN and maintenance Accounts and procedure for availing various schemes such as Rajiv Gandhi National Creche programme, Awareness Generation Programme, Condensed course of Education, Family Counseling Centre and Innovative Scheme.
The training programme was concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Shri. S. Karthik, Secretary i/c, A&N SWB.
