Port Blair, Mar 19: Coming down heavily on Administration on power crisis, the Member of Parliament of A & N Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray today alleged that A & N Islands are facing power crisis because of the negligence of Electricity Department.
“Is the Administration sleeping? During peak hours there is a demand of 20 MW electricity and the capacity of SPCL is 20 MW, this means in case of any breakdown, the Administration will have no backup,” the MP said.
Addressing a press conference at Port Blair the MP said that the dispute between electricity department and SPCL is regarding loan, for which Administration says there is no clause. “When earlier the Administration has given loan, why can’t administration provide loan again? When Administration can provide oil to SPCL, which is not mentioned in the clause, why can’t Administration provide loan to SPCL on the same ground?” the MP questioned.
MP questioned that if the SPCL did not overhaul the DG sets on time, then why the Administration was silent all these days? He alleged that this resulted in breaking down of pistons in DG sets and the present power crisis.
Attacking Forest Department for making PAN card necessary for getting timber from Chatham Saw Mill the MP said that this will create problems for those poor people, who do not have a PAN card. “This is injustice, this is dictatorship, this is shamelessness. I demand that the forest department must withdraw this condition immediately,” he added.
He supported A & N State BJP president, Mr. R Mohan’s demand to increase the interim relief for fire victims from Rs. 750 to Rs. 10,000.
