Port Blair, Nov 06: It’s been almost a month since the last date for collecting the National Population Register Identity Card from the Post Office has ended but hundreds of cards are still lying unclaimed in the Post Offices. These cards do not have the exact address of the card holder and carries only the name of the person and name of an large area, like, South Andaman or North Andaman, because of which the officials of India Post are unable to deliver it to the right address of the card holders.
This card is an important document for Identity establishment of the people residing in the costal belt of India and very soon will be linked with the Aadhar Number of a person, Govt. of India has spent crores of Rupees in getting these Smart Chip enabled cards which stores the biometric information of the person. The huge amount of public money spent on the survey and manufacturing these cards will go in vain if the cards will not reach its owner.
Andaman Sheekha contacted Mr. D.D. Mohammed, Assistant Superintendent, India Post, Port Blair to know the strategy of the department for delivery of the left out cards.
Mr. D.D Mohammed informed us that now the department will take the help of the Municipal Council and will try to identify the person and deliver the card to the right person. He added that the cooperation of the Municipal Council will be beneficial as the Ward Councilors of any ward in person usually knows majority of the residents residing in their area.
Andaman Sheekha hope that this trick of Postal Department works and all the residents of A & N Islands get their NPR card without any trouble.
