Diglipur, North Andaman, Mar 11: The deadlock of North Andaman’s Diglipur Island over shifting of ‘Shiv Ling’, ended peacefully on Saturday morning after the District Administration and protesting public reached to a compromise.
The break through came after second round of meeting early Saturday morning, though the decision to end the deadlock was almost planned on Friday evening after first round of meeting between the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman Mr. Udit Prakash and Protesting public.
On Saturday morning, as per the demands of villagers the ‘Shiv Ling’, which was earlier removed by the District Administration on 8th March 2012, was brought back to the makeshift temple, after which the ‘Shiv Ling’ was installed in a nearby temple by the temple committee, with all religious rituals and great devotion.
With this the Bandh and road blockade ended in Diglipur, bringing relief for common man.
“All villagers blocked road and even had food on road and because of this protest, the District Administration had to return the Shiv Ling. There was absolutely no necessity to remove the Shiv Ling from its original place when the villagers were ready to shift the Idol in three days,” Member of Parliament of A & N Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, who had lead the villagers in road blockade and Bandh at Diglipur told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ yesterday.
