The feature film ‘Gandhi The Mahatma’, is produced and directed by Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, first National School of Drama graduate from Andaman andNicobar Islands.
“The film will be telecast by the DD-I channel on 9th March 2012. I feel honoured and it’s a proud moment for all the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands,” Lal told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
The feature film was shot by cameraman Timmanna Hegde and has been cut to perfect pace and duration by the editor Peter Gundra. Pawan Kumar Sharma is Creative Supervisor.
Apart from its shooting at various picturesque places of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the film was also shot at Gandhi Ashram Seva Gram (Wardha).
”Known faces of Bollywood like Manoj Kumar Yadav and television artists Mukul Nag of Sai Baba TV serial, Anukamal and Rajesh Jais are the main cast of the film. Rajesh Jais played the role of Gandhi in the film,” Naresh Chander Lal, whose first film, ‘Amrit Jal’ won six awards in the National and International film festivals in India, added.
“My movie on Gandhi is different from the ones made till date as I have shown him as a ‘thought’ and not a being,” he added.
Though in his life Gandhiji never visited Andamans, the Director has shown him visiting the islands after his death, on his birth anniversary and interacting with a group of four children in various locations of A & NIslands.
