Port Blair, Aug 22: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration is planning for third degree college in these Islands as the Pondicherry University has made it clear that permission for second shift in South Andaman’s lone degree college, JNRM, is an ‘one time measure’.
This is the second academic year when the Pondicherry University had granted second shift in Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) but with indication that such permission will not given from next year.
In 2012, for the first time as an interim measure second shift was introduced in Port Blair’s JNRM in six undergraduate disciplines to accommodate 360 left out students.
Earlier Andaman and Nicobar Administration had urged Pondicherry University to give permission for second shift for this academic year too as this year nearly 2000 students had applied for admission in JNRM while there are seats only for 885.
“We have already submitted a proposal for second degree college in South Andaman to the Administration as running a second shift in JNRM is not a permanent solution for Island Students,” Dr. Iqbal Ahmed, the Principal of JNRM told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands altogether has one degree College for South Andaman and One for North and Middle Andaman.
