Port Blair, July 22: The Secretary-cum-Director (Education), Mr. D N Singh, today reviewed the Implementation of Mid Day Meal Scheme in this UT Administration and issued necessary directives to all concerned officials of Education Department to take necessary measures for supply of safe & hygienic Mid Day Meal to the students and reiterated to follow all instructions issued by the Directorate from time to time.
However when Andaman Sheekha asked Mr. Singh about Lt. Governor’s tweet in which he has mentioned that he is ordering an audit of Mid-Day meal scheme, the Secretary-cum-Director (Education) said that he has no information about such directions.
“Does the Lt. Governor Tweets?” he questioned.
Later talking to Andaman Sheekha the Assistant Director of Education (Planning), Mr. Sashi Kumar said that the Education Department already has a proper mechanism for monitoring the Mid Day Meal Scheme.
“Every school has a Mid-Day meal committee and the food is first tasted by committee members and a sample is kept until evening,” he said.
Referring to the incident of Bihar, Mr. Kumar said that no such things are happening in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. “We are ensuring that things are kept in such a way that there is no scope of any such incidents,” he added.
He gave the example of boiled egg and said “Boiled eggs that we provide to the students are with shell so that it remains hygienic.”
Further he said that few schools have mothers committee also which also checks the quality of Mid-Day meal.
“We have SSA Committee, Zonal Committee, District Level Committee, State Level Committee which monitors the quality of Mid-Day meal,” the Assistant Director added.
