Port Blair, July 22: The Rahul Gandhi Youth Club, Vrindaban organized “one day knockout football Tournament” at Jirkatang Beach Dera Ground on 21st July, 2013 for collecting relief fund for the Uttarakhand people who were the victims of recent cloud burst and flood.
Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the President, PCC was the Chief Guest of the event. In his inaugural speech, Sharma lauded the efforts of the youths for coming forward to the help of the people of Uttarakhand and stated that he is proud of the youth forces of the area who could feel the sinking nerves of those people who have lost their near and dear ones in the natural calamity and also sustained heavy loss in many ways.
Sharma also stated that our islanders have many talented sports personalities who, if given chance can prove themselves in the National sports events also. Sports not only makes a man healthy but also develops ones mental status and teaches to be united and accept every ups and downs of the life very sportingly.
Total twelve teams participated in the tournament when Rahul Gandhi Youth Club, Vrindavan declared as winner while Cattlegunge A Team as runner up. Both the teams were given trophy by Kuldeep Rai Sharma in front of about 600 spectators. The tournament was sponsored by Mr PK Abdul Aziz, a social worker of Vrindaban . Mohammed Shafique, Pramukh Ferargunge, AP Jadir, Pradhan, Mannarghat, Abdul Aziz, Pradhan, Stewardgung, Anand Amrit Raj , ZP Member Tushnabad, John Robert Babu, President, PYC and Mohammed Ali, Block President, Ferargunge, Jaishing, Social worker, Namunaghar were among other dignitaries witnessed the event.
