Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 19: Mr. N. K. Udhaya Kumar, State General Secretary (Organisation) of Hindu Rashtra Shakti and former Chairperson of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC), has urged the Administration and the Andaman & Nicobar Police to take strict legal action against unauthorized begging activities at the Sunday Market in Junglighat.
In a representation addressed to the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, he highlighted that despite the establishment of a regulated vending space, groups of beggars have been unlawfully occupying portions of the road and market area during Sunday market hours. This, he stated, is causing obstruction to pedestrians and vehicular movement, creating public nuisance, and disrupting the orderly functioning of the market.
He emphasized that such activities amount to unauthorized encroachment on public space and are in violation of civic norms, municipal regulations, and laws related to maintenance of public order. He urged the authorities to initiate immediate enforcement measures, including eviction of encroachments, continuous monitoring, and legal proceedings against violators.
Mr. Udhaya Kumar further stated that failure to address the issue may lead to deterioration of law and order and undermine the purpose of the designated market facility. He called for prompt and decisive intervention to ensure a safe, clean, and well-regulated market environment in the larger interest of the public.
