Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 19: In a significant development bringing relief to traders and the general public, the Billiground Bazaar Committee convened an urgent meeting today at 6:30 PM at the Billiground Vegetable Market to deliberate on the ongoing shutdown of the market. The closure had been enforced due to excessive dust caused by the incomplete construction work on NH-4 passing through the bazaar area.
Following detailed discussions, the Secretary of the Billiground Bazaar Committee, Mr. Debashish Roy, announced that the market will reopen from tomorrow and resume normal operations. This decision comes as a major relief to shopkeepers, vendors, farmers, and daily consumers who have been facing considerable hardship due to the prolonged shutdown.
Earlier in the day, the Andaman Sheekha correspondent contacted Dr. Sushant Padha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman District, who assured that all necessary efforts are being made to restart the pending road construction work in the Billiground Bazaar area at the earliest. Acting on his directions, the NHIDCL contractor is scheduled to resume the incomplete NH-4 road work from tomorrow. The Bazaar Committee also confirmed this development during the meeting.
The reopening decision has been widely welcomed by stakeholders, including shopkeepers, tea stall owners, vegetable vendors, farmers, members of the fishing community, and the general public. They collectively expressed their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Padha for his prompt, diligent, and firm administrative intervention.
Residents also acknowledged that the administration’s action has addressed serious public health concerns arising from heavy dust pollution in the area, ensuring both economic continuity and improved living conditions.
The situation now appears to be stabilizing, with hopes for the swift completion of the road work and the restoration of normalcy in the region.
