Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 17: In a proactive move to control the growing population of roaming street bulls and safeguard public safety in urban areas, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) successfully carried out a bull castration programme in different localities of Sri Vijaya Puram city on 12th and 13th March 2026.
Senior Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Hospital Junglighat, personally performed the castration operations at Nayagaon, Anarkali, and Middle Point areas. The programme was aimed at reducing aggressive behaviour among street bulls, making them calmer and less prone to causing accidents or disturbances to the public. It also helps prevent uncontrolled breeding in urban zones and encourages the adoption of Artificial Insemination (AI) — a scientific and superior method for improving the genetic quality and productivity of cattle.
Such targeted interventions not only address immediate public safety concerns but also contribute to better animal management and long-term livestock improvement in the city. The Veterinary Hospital Junglighat continues to undertake these activities on a regular basis to maintain a safer environment for residents while supporting modern and humane breeding practices across Sri Vijaya Puram.
The Department expresses its commitment to conducting similar programmes in other areas as and when required and appeals to the public to cooperate and report stray bull-related issues to the nearest veterinary institution for timely intervention
