Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 16: In a landmark collaboration between local governance and adventure tourism, Gram Panchayat Shivapuram joined forces with a cross-country biker group from Pune, Maharashtra, to conduct a massive restoration and cleanliness drive at the Panchawati Eco-Tourism Beach on 16.03.2026.
The drive was led by Mr. Venkateswar Rao, Pradhan and Mr. Mohammed Haneef, Panchayat Secretary of Gram Panchayat Shivapuram in the presence of Mr. Pradeep Kumar Singh, Block Development Officer, CD Block Rangat.
The drive mobilized over 35 volunteers, including panchayat members, local youth, and the visiting riders. Together, they transformed the beach by extraction of over 158 kg of plastic waste, glass, and non-biodegradable materials from the shoreline and adjacent eco-trails and the waste was sorted at the source and transported to the the local solid waste management under GP Shivapuram.
Further during the interaction session speaking upon BDO Rangat said “Today’s effort is a testament to the power of community. Seeing travelers from Pune take such an active interest in our local environment reminds us that protecting our coastline is a shared national responsibility”, followed by the riders group said “As riders, we enjoy the beauty of India’s landscapes, but we also witness the toll of pollution. Partnering with the Shivapuram Panchayat allowed us to give back to the islands that have welcomed us so warmly” and at the end the Pradhan GP Shivapuram “While we are grateful for the support of our friends from Pune, the true test of this drive lies in what happens tomorrow,” the Pradhan stated. “Our goal is to transform Shivapuram into a ‘Zero-Plastic Zone.’ We are calling upon every shopkeeper, boat operator, and resident to treat Panchawati Beach with the same sanctity as their own home. Cleanliness is not a one-day event; it is a culture we must build together.”
The Gram Panchayat Shivapuram remains committed to conducting such periodic drives to ensure the long-term preservation of our natural resources.
