Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 15: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, on 14th March, laid the foundation stones for the renovation, resurfacing and improvement of link roads at 09 locations (i.e. School Line Ward No.15, Dairyfarm Ward No.15, School Line Ward No.16, Dollygunj Ward No.17, Brookshabad, Ward No.22, Carbinscove W.No.21, Austinabad Ward No.20, Garacharma Ward No.19 and Birdline W.No.23), in the Municipal area of Sri Vijayapuram, South Andaman District. Besides this, he also inaugurated a road constructed under MPLAD fund provided by him at Garacharma on 14th March.
The foundation stone laying ceremonies were attended by the Chairperson of the Sri Vijayapuram Municipal Council (SVPMC), respective Ward Councillors, Superintending Engineer, officials of SVPMC and members of the general public.
While laying the foundation stones at the respective locations, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray expressed his happiness and gratitude to the Government of India for sanctioning funds under the Central Road Fund (CRF) Phase–I proposal, amounting to ₹1 crore for each municipal ward, made possible through the efforts of the A&N Administration and his continuous pursuit with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
The MP stated that many link roads in the Municipal wards are presently in a deplorable condition and could not be repaired earlier by the Council due to paucity of funds. The sanctioned works under CRF will facilitate the renovation and improvement of these roads, including necessary widening wherever required. He added that this initiative will ensure safer and more convenient travel for daily commuters and will significantly improve connectivity within the municipal areas.
Local residents, including elderly persons who attended the programmes at the respective wards, expressed their happiness and appreciation for the initiative taken by the MP with the support of the A&N Administration and Government. They stated that the improvement and resurfacing of these roads would greatly benefit the community by providing better connectivity and safer passage for the public.
