Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 15: In continuation of the ongoing foundation stone laying programme, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, today laid the foundation stones for improvement, resurfacing and special repair of Other District Link Roads at 04 locations in the municipal area at Garacharma (Ward No. 18), Prothrapur (Ward No. 24), Machilane (Ward No. 10) and Nayagaon (Ward No. 12). The programme was attended by the respective Ward Councillors, officials of SVPMC, prominent citizens, residents and elderly persons of the areas, who expressed happiness over the initiatives being taken to improve road infrastructure in their localities.
These works are being undertaken under the Central Road Fund (CRF), under which an amount of Rs. 1 crore has been sanctioned for each municipal ward. This is considered a significant step towards strengthening road infrastructure in the municipal areas of Port Blair.
On the occasion, the MP expressed his gratitude to the Government of Bharat and the UT Administration for their support in sanctioning the CRF funds for the islands. He stated that improvement of roads is one of the basic requirements for smooth movement of commuters and overall development.
The MP further highlighted that due to paucity of funds earlier, the Municipal Council could not undertake many such works, which caused inconvenience to the residents. With the sanction of CRF funds, these long-pending issues are now being addressed and his commitment to improve road connectivity and ease the movement of the public is being fulfilled.
