
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 13: As part of the International Women’s Day week-long celebrations, the National Helpline for Senior Citizens (Elder Helpline – 14567) under the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration organised a Free Eye Testing Camp at Ullas Old Age Home, Attam Pahad, Sri Vijaya Puram in collaboration with the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) under the Directorate of Health Services.
The Project Manager of Elder Helpline 14567 welcomed the gathering and highlighted the services of the toll-free helpline, which operates every day from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, dedicated to supporting senior citizens.
The medical team, led by a Junior Ophthalmologist, created awareness on common eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataract, emphasising the importance of regular eye check-ups for senior citizens. The team, comprising an Optometrist, Eye Counsellor and Camp Coordinator, conducted detailed eye examinations and consultations for the inmates of Ullas Old Age Home.
The Child Development Project Officer (Urban) and In-charge of Ullas Old Age Home lauded the efforts of the Elder Helpline team and the medical team of the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) for organising the camp and extending essential eye care services for the well-being of the elderly residents. Around 30 inmates and staff of the Home benefited from the free eye screening and awareness session.
The activity formed part of the week-long engagement programme organised during International Women’s Day celebrations, reflecting the commitment to promoting health, awareness and overall well-being of elderly persons in the community, in line with this year’s theme “Give to Gain.”
