Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar. 8: The Government of India, under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, has launched Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) on 1st September, 2024. The flagship initiative aims to provide affordable, all-weather pucca houses to one crore urban families across the country over the next five years, furthering the vision of Housing for All.
Following the launch of the scheme, the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) has undertaken extensive awareness initiatives to ensure maximum outreach among eligible beneficiaries. These efforts include press outreach, installation of hoardings at prominent locations, and the organization of ward-level awareness camps to assist citizens in understanding the scheme and the application process.
As on date, 214 applications have been received under the scheme, out of which 189 applications have been verified.
Key Scheme Components
PMAY-U 2.0 is being implemented through multiple verticals to ensure wider coverage and accessibility:
• Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC): This vertical provides financial assistance to eligible families belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category to construct new all-weather pucca houses on their own available land. Beneficiaries under this component may construct houses with a minimum carpet area of 30 sq. m and a maximum of 45 sq. m.
• Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP): Under this vertical, Central Assistance is provided to EWS beneficiaries for owning a pucca house. Affordable houses with a carpet area of 30-45 sq. m are constructed by public or private agencies and allotted to eligible beneficiaries.
• Affordable Rental Housing (ARH): This component promotes the development of rental housing for EWS/LIG beneficiaries, including urban migrants, homeless persons, industrial workers, working women, construction workers, and other urban poor. The housing units are developed through prescribed implementation models to provide affordable rental accommodation.
• Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS): Under this vertical, interest subsidy is provided on eligible home loans sanctioned and disbursed on or after 01.09.2024. The benefit is available to EWS, LIG, and MIG beneficiaries with annual household incomes of up to Rs. 3 lakh, Rs. 6 lakh, and Rs. 9 lakh respectively, enabling them to access affordable housing through institutional finance.
