
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 09: The National Helpline for Senior Citizens- toll free number-14567 under the Directorate of Social Welfare organized a special programme at Ullas Old Age Home to celebrate International Women’s Day and honour the strength and contributions of elderly women residing there. The programme was graced by Nodal Officer (Elder Helpline) Nodal Officer (Senior Citizens) and Advocate of DLSA.
Project Manager, Elder Helpline, welcomed the gathering. The celebration began with a Women’s Day cake-cutting ceremony followed by interaction with the inmates, where they shared their life experiences.
During the interaction session the team engaged closely with the elderly residents and listened to their heartfelt experiences, personal journeys and life stories. The inmates shared their thoughts openly and expressed their emotions and memories with great enthusiasm. It was a meaningful exchange where the elderly felt heard and valued.
Recreational games, cultural activities, and prize distribution were also organized, bringing joy to the residents. The programme reflected this year’s theme “Give to Gain,” highlighting the spirit of compassion and respect for elderly women in society.
As part of the celebrations, the Elder Helplne is also planning to organize a week-long series of activities for the residents of Ullas Old Age Home. The proposed activities include a free eye-testing camp, recreational and wellness sessions, and an exposure visit to nearby temples and places of spiritual importance to provide the elderly residents with opportunities for social interaction, health check-ups, and emotional well-being.
The initiative aims to promote dignity, care, and active engagement for senior citizens while celebrating the spirit of womanhood and resilience among elderly women.
