Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 20: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, under ATMA, successfully conducted a two-day training programme on “Scientific Rearing & Management of Poultry, Duck and Value-Added Chicken” at Panchayat Hall, R K Pur, Little Andaman.
Altogether 22 women participants, from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), along with trainee students undergoing diploma courses, attended the programme. The in-charge Senior Veterinary Officer of Veterinary Hospital R K Pur, as resource person, explained in detail the importance of scientific management practices for poultry, duck, and value-added birds like quail, turkey, and guinea fowl to achieve higher production and good market value.
The training emphasized that with increasing national and international tourist arrivals in the region, there is rising demand for quality meat and eggs, especially value-added chicken. Establishing more private farms is essential to meet this market need. SHG members expressed readiness to take up small-scale poultry, duckery, value-added chicken, goatery, and piggery units, and the SVO assured full departmental support by supplying necessary inputs to the groups.
Participants were distributed reading materials, inputs, and snacks, and requested to visit CLF Nanjappa Nagar Government Farm for practical demonstration of scientific farming practices. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Promila Roy, SHG group member.
This training reflects the Department’s commitment to empowering rural women, promoting diversified livestock farming, and strengthening sustainable livelihoods to meet growing demand and boost farmer incomes in Little Andaman.
