Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 06: As part of the pre-event of the 1st Island Bird Festival–2026, by the department of Environment and Forests outreach programmes were organized for school students on 4th and 5th February 2026 by the Nicobar Forest Division, in coordination with the Andaman Avian Club, at Coast Guard Public School and Campbell Bay Senior Secondary School. A “Build a Nest” competition held at the Coast Guard School sensitized students to the importance of birds in biodiversity, where participants used natural nesting materials to create innovative nests. At GSSS Campbell Bay, a bird-watching and ecological walk was conducted at 10 km Camp, North–West Road, featuring an orientation on endemic bird species of Great Nicobar Island, practical bird-watching skills, and an interactive session highlighting the ecological significance of the endemic Nicobar Megapode.
