Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 3: A meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Committee to discuss water availability and its management during the summer of 2026 was chaired by Deputy Commissioner (SA), Ms. Purva Garg, IAS in the presence of the Special Secretary (APWD), Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Shri Prakash Adhikari, Chairperson, SVPMC, Shri Shahul Hameed, PRI Members, Pradhans of Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samiti Members, Ward Councillors, representative of the Hon’ble Member of Parliament and senior officials of APWD and SVPMC.
Discussions were held on the prevailing water scenario, preparedness measures and coordinated efforts required for water supply during the summer months.
Certain issues like irregular supply schedule, pumping delays from Lamba Line Treatment Plant, need for change in old pipelines and requirement of desilting were highlighted by Public Representatives.
Special Secretary, APWD assured that action on all such issues is being taken to address the concerns of general public.
It was also requested that Public Representatives may help in generating awareness regarding water conservation and help in implementing water curtailment plans as a part of Summer Action plan of APWD.
