
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 01: On behalf of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, floral tributes were paid at the Humfrygunj Martyrs’ Memorial in solemn remembrance of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation.
On this historic day in 1944, 44 freedom fighters of the Indian Independence League were brutally martyred by Japanese troops at Humfrygunj. The programme was held as part of an official administrative function, in which the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, also paid floral tributes at the memorial. Family members of the martyrs were present on the solemn occasion, adding emotional significance to the remembrance ceremony.
Remembering their supreme sacrifice, Ayush Raj, Media Convener, ABVP ANI, along with Swagatham Das, Pramukh, Students for Seva, ABVP ANI, offered tributes and observed a moment of silence to honour their courage and patriotism.
The occasion served as a reminder of the invaluable contribution of the martyrs to India’s freedom struggle and inspired the youth to uphold the values of nationalism, service, and sacrifice.
Students from Humfrygunj School and various colleges across the islands actively participated in the programme, reflecting collective respect and awareness among the younger generation about the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle.
ABVP ANI reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the legacy of the freedom fighters and to continuing its work towards nation-building through student involvement and social service.
