Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 29: On 24 January 2026, the State Child Protection Society (SCPS) under the Directorate of Social Welfare observed National Girl Child Day by organising programmes and competitions for girl children residing in various Child Care Institutions, with special focus on activities held at Balika Niketan. The observance aimed to encourage confidence, awareness, and positive thinking among girls living under institutional care.
At Balika Niketan, a range of creative and expressive competitions were organised, including poster and drawing on the theme “My Dreams, My Strength”, essay writing on “If I Were Given a Chance to Change the World”, speech/essay on “Why Girls Can Lead the Future”, and poem or slogan writing on the theme “A Confident Girl, A Strong Nation”. The activities provided a supportive space for the girls to share their ideas, dreams, and perspectives.
As part of the programme, Ms. Monalisa Biswas, Nodal Officer, Mission Vatsalya, shared guidance on career counselling, highlighting the importance of education, skill development, and future planning. The session focused on helping the girls understand career choices and long-term goals in a simple and encouraging manner.
The programme also included interactive discussions and activities on confidence building and leadership, conducted by Ms. Rehaneth Begum, Programme Manager, State Child Protection Society. Topics such as self-belief, decision-making, teamwork, and expressing opinions were discussed, creating meaningful engagement among the participants.
Every girl child has the right to education, safety, participation, and equal opportunity to grow with dignity. A secure and supportive environment enables girls to build confidence and essential life skills. Efforts that promote awareness of these rights play an important role in supporting girls to realise their potential and contribute positively to society.
