
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 28: National Voters’ Day 2026 was observed in the schools at Diglipur on 27th January 2026 with awareness programmes organized by Block Project Office (BPO), Diglipur. The programmes were conducted in line with the national theme “Breaking the Barriers: Making Elections Accessible”, emphasizing inclusive electoral participation for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
The programme aimed to create awareness among school functionaries and stakeholders about inclusive and accessible electoral processes, particularly focusing on the rights of PwDs and the importance of their active participation in the democratic process. The programme at GSSS Swarajgram consisted of 29 participants, including HoIs, teachers, students and parents of Children with Special Needs (CwSN), members of SMC & SMDC& students of class XI. Ms. N. Riya Nandan, PSRT, conducted an awareness session on accessible elections focusing on voter rights of PwDs and inclusive participation, followed by an interactive discussion and demonstration on voter accessibility by Mr. Prodip Dhali, PTPST and BLO of Swarajgram Part No. 12, highlighting accessible voting facilities, EVM features, and voter assistance.
Similar programme was conducted at GSSS Kishorinagar, Diglipur consisting of 40 participants including Vice Principal, teachers, students, parents of Children with Special Needs (CwSN), members of SMC & SMDC. Ms. Rakhi Kabiraj, BRP (CwSN), and Ms. Roshni Bela Dung Dung, PST, conducted a role play on National Voters’ Day highlighting accessible voting facilities, EVM features, voter assistance, and support services provided by the Election Commission of India, thereby enhancing participants’ practical understanding of inclusive voting.
The programme resulted in enhanced awareness and confidence among stakeholders to support and motivate PwDs towards active and informed electoral participation. The observance of National Voters’ Day reinforced the commitment of the education department and election authorities towards building an inclusive, accessible, and participatory democracy.
