Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 25: An engine fault at the Campbell Bay petrol pump led to long queues and public inconvenience on Sunday, triggering rumours of a fuel shortage. However, local authorities and pump management have clarified that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel, and the disruption is purely due to a technical malfunction in pump.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Venkat Rao (Pradhan), Govindnagar, said that the issue arose after a technical problem in fuel dispensing machine, rendering the automated system non-functional. As a result, fuel is currently being dispensed manually to ensure continuity of service.
“Due to an engine fault, the pump machine is not working. The required repair parts are not available locally and will be brought by helicopter. Once the helicopter arrives, the problem will be resolved,” Venkat Rao said.
Sources added that the helicopter service could not operate on Sunday and Monday due to scheduling constraints and Republic Day arrangements, but is expected to resume on Tuesday, with repairs likely to be completed by Wednesday.
Providing clarity to dispel misinformation, pump officials stated that sufficient quality of Petrol and Diesel are currently available in the storage tanks. “The rumours claiming that petrol has run out are completely false and misleading,” he added.
