Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 23: Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has expressed deep concern over two tragic suicide incidents that have occurred at the Girls’ Hostel of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM), Andaman, within the last three months. One of the recent incidents involved a student of the Geography Department and occurred on January 23, 2026, inside the hostel premises.
The organisation stated that these unfortunate incidents have shocked students, parents and society, raising serious questions about student safety and welfare in residential educational institutions. The occurrence of two such incidents in a short span has highlighted the possibility of underlying issues such as mental stress, academic pressure, administrative lapses, or the absence of adequate counselling and emotional support mechanisms for students.
Hindu Rashtra Shakti has urged the authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial and time-bound enquiry into both cases to ascertain the circumstances and causes behind the incidents. It has also called for a comprehensive review of the functioning of the hostel administration, supervision systems, grievance redressal mechanisms and overall student welfare arrangements at JNRM.
Emphasising the need for preventive measures, the organisation suggested the regular deployment of qualified counsellors and mental health professionals for hostel students, along with structured interaction between hostel authorities, faculty members and students. It further recommended awareness programmes on mental health, stress management and coping mechanisms to create a supportive and positive campus environment. Strengthening monitoring, mentoring and security arrangements within the hostel premises and periodic review of living conditions were also stressed as essential steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Hindu Rashtra Shakti appealed to the Administration to take immediate corrective and preventive measures in the interest of student safety and welfare. The organisation expressed hope that transparent enquiry and prompt action would help restore confidence among students and parents and reinforce trust in the institutional system.
