
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 22: The Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman (ZPSA), Mr. Prakash Adhikari, conducted a joint inspection at Guptapara on 22.01.2026 along with the Chief Engineer, APWD, Mr. Prijith Rekh, his technical team, and officials from the Department of Fisheries to assess the damage caused to government and private properties due to the recent floods.
During the inspection, the team reviewed the extent of damage to infrastructure, residential areas, and public assets. Detailed discussions were held on the developmental and remedial measures required to mitigate future flood risks. Special emphasis was laid on restoration works, strengthening of drainage systems, protection of vulnerable areas, and planning of long-term flood management solutions.
The team also visited the Fish Landing Jetty at Guptapara, where it was decided to immediately undertake repair works of net binding shed, concrete ramp, diesel pump and other essential facilities including dredging. Additionally, discussions were held to resume the functioning of the non-operational Fish Landing Jetty at Wandoor.
The Adhyaksh requested the concerned departments to prepare detailed estimates and proposals for undertaking the required developmental works on a priority basis, ensuring effective coordination among all stakeholder departments. The Chief Engineer, APWD, assured that the technical assessments would be expedited to facilitate timely execution of the proposed works.
The joint inspection reflects the commitment of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman and line departments towards prompt assessment, coordinated action, and effective implementation of rehabilitation measures and sustainable development initiatives in the flood-affected areas.
