On the occasion of Armed Forces Veterans’ Day, observed on 14th January, I pay my respectful homage to the brave veterans of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Armed Forces Veterans Day is celebrated every year to recognise the service rendered by the first Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal K M Cariappa, who retired on this day in 1953.
This day honours the extraordinary courage, discipline, and selfless service of our Armed Forces veterans, whose sacrifices have been fundamental to preserving the nation’s sovereignty, unity, and security. Their unwavering commitment to duty, often under the most demanding circumstances, reflects the highest traditions of honour and patriotism.
I am pleased to note the commendable initiatives undertaken by the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) towards the welfare of veterans in the islands. An outreach programme has been launched with the objective of establishing effective and sustained engagement with veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, as well as Veer Naris. This initiative focuses on their overall well-being, preventive healthcare, and the timely redressal of grievances, thereby reinforcing the Command’s enduring commitment to those who have served the nation with distinction.
The peace and freedoms enjoyed by our citizens today stand as an enduring testament to their vigilance, resilience, and supreme dedication. The nation remains permanently indebted to those who have served on the frontlines, safeguarding the values and ideals of our Republic.
On behalf of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration and the people of these islands, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all veterans and their families, and wish them continued good health, dignity, and fulfilment.
