Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 26: A 32-year-old man was allegedly killed by his stepfather following a violent altercation at Namunaghar village under Ograbraj Police Station on Wednesday afternoon. The accused has since been arrested by the police and remanded to judicial custody by the Hon’ble Court, according to police sources and a copy of the First Information Report (FIR).
As per the FIR statement, the complainant, Raja Chandar Sai, a Home Guard volunteer and PCR driver, stated that he resides at Ranchi Basti, Ward No. 1, Namunaghar, with his wife Renuka Kumari, daughter Nidhi Kumari, mother Jeeran Devi and brother Mahaveer Chander Sai. His residence is located about 100 metres from the house of the accused, Chote Lall Toppo, aged around 54 years.
In his statement, Raja Chandar Sai said that at around 12:15 pm on December 25, while he was preparing to leave for PCR duty (Param-4), he heard loud cries coming from the locality. On coming out of his house, he came to know that Chote Lall Toppo had assaulted his stepson, Deep Raj Kumar (32), with a stone.
The complainant rushed to the spot and found Deep Raj Kumar with severe head injuries and profuse bleeding. He immediately contacted the PCR control room to arrange an ambulance and was informed that medical assistance had been alerted and would reach the spot shortly.
However, the FIR states that Deep Raj Kumar was later found lying motionless, face down, near a Shiv Temple, about five metres away from the place of occurrence, and was declared dead.
According to the complainant, the incident occurred following a quarrel between the victim and his stepfather. It has been alleged that the accused repeatedly assaulted Deep Raj Kumar on the head using a stone and a wooden object, causing fatal injuries. The FIR further mentions that Deep Raj Kumar was the step-son of Chote Lall Toppo, who allegedly harboured resentment towards him since childhood.
The statement was recorded on December 25 at around 3:00 pm in the presence of Venkateshwar Pradhan, Gram Panchayat member, Namunaghar. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Ograbraj Police Station. Police later arrested the accused and produced him before the Hon’ble Court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
