Port Blair, Feb 20: Bharatiya Janta Party’s Andaman and Nicobar unit today expressed deep displeasure over the move A & N Administration to arrange the meeting of Court Commissioner at Port Blair, without giving proper publicity. The
party has termed the meeting as an eye wash.
The Supreme Court of India recently appointed two Court Commissioners on buffer zone issue and the hearing of the Court Commissioners was organised at Port Blair on 18 February 2012 by A & N Administration.
“The meeting started without any arrangement for Video or Audio recording and moreover the voice of people was not reaching to the Court Commissioners properly,” R Mohan President of A & N State BJP unit alleged.
The party also alleged that representations submitted by the public were accepted without any acknowledgement or receipt.
“Moreover, the attendance during the public hearing was not maintained. Surprisingly such an important meeting was not given proper publicity and was convened at Port Blair when the affected public are at North and Middle Andaman, many of whom could not attend the meeting,” Mohan added.
Buffer Zone is a five-km radius around the Jarawa Reserve Forest of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which was created by Andaman and Nicobar Administration in 2007 vide Notification No 243. The Buffer Zone prohibits entry of any person other than a member of original tribes for any commercial or tourism activity.
