Sri Vijayapuram, Sept. 12: The Hindu Rashtra Shakti (HRS) has urged the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to restore government bus services in Car Nicobar, particularly from the jetty to key locations, aligned with ship arrival and departure schedules.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, HRS State President Mr. Rakeshwar Lall highlighted the difficulties faced by residents in the absence of such services. He noted that before the 2004 tsunami, the State Transport Service (STS) operated buses in sync with shipping schedules, ensuring smooth connectivity for passengers. However, even after the restoration of infrastructure, this service has not been resumed.
The letter emphasized that the lack of affordable and reliable transport has created severe inconvenience, especially for elderly citizens, women, children, and patients requiring urgent medical attention. With limited and costly private options, residents are often left stranded upon ship arrivals and departures.
HRS pointed out that reinstating these services would not only improve mobility but also strengthen disaster preparedness, a lesson underscored by the 2004 tsunami. The organization urged the administration to direct the STS to prioritize the restoration of bus services integrated with published shipping schedules.
“This step would address immediate transportation gaps and reflect the administration’s commitment to equitable development across remote tribal areas,” the letter stated.
