Mayabunder, Aug. 29: To highlight the national initiative of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, the District Administration in association with ICDS Project Rangat organised a comprehensive awareness program today at Anganwadi Center, Rest Camp, Mayabunder. The event featured a variety of engaging activities designed to promote gender equality, celebrate the girl child, and encourage community participation.
Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman, Smti. Nandini Maharaj, IAS local officials, ICDS functionaries and community members participated for a day of activities centered on the empowerment of girls.
A compelling skit was performed by the Anganwadi Workers captivating the audience and delivering a powerful message about the importance of protecting and educating the girl child. The performance effectively highlighted the social challenges faced by girls and emphasized the need for present generation.
Children Park attached to Anganwadi Center, Rest Camp was redeveloped for age appropriate play zones to create a healthy environment for mothers and children to spend leisure time.
In a symbolic gesture to promote a healthier future for girls, a plantation drive was organized. DC (N&MA) and other dignitaries planted saplings, representing the community’s collective commitment to nurturing and protecting the growth of every girl child.
A signature campaign was initiated, urging attendees to pledge their support for the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ cause. The campaign saw strong participation from men, women, and youth, demonstrating the community’s solidarity towards gender equality.
A special food mela (fair) was set up, showcasing a variety of nutritious food items essential for the health and development of children. The mela also served as a platform to educate mothers and expecting parents on best practices for maternal and infant nutrition.
DC (N&MA) commended the Anganwadi workers for their tireless efforts in driving social change at the grassroots level.
