Sri Vijaya Puram Aug. 29: A cultural programme of folk dances and folk songs is set to be organized at TGCE tomorrow (Aug. 30), to commemorate the World Day of Folklore, observed globally on August 22. The Directorate of Art & Culture, A&N Administration is organising this vibrant celebration of traditional arts and heritage, at 5 pm in the auditorium of Tagore Govt. College of Education, Middle Point. The Secretary, Art & Culture, A&N Administration, Ms Jyoti Kumari, IAS will be the chief guest on this occasion.
The programmes of the evening will include inter collegiate folk dance competition and presentation of folk songs by the winning teams of schools. Trophies and participation certificates will also be distributed during this programme.
To further enrich the programme, two captivating talks have been scheduled. Islands’ Historian Dr. Rashida Iqbal will present “Andaman ke Kisse,” sharing historical narratives from the pre-independence era of the Andaman Islands. Dr. Jochibed Vincent, faculty member of ANCOL, will deliver “Nicobar ke Kisse,” exploring indigenous tales, legends, and myths from the Nicobar Islands. These sessions promise to offer attendees a rare and authentic glimpse into the oral heritage of the tribal communities, adding depth and historical resonance to the celebration.
The event is poised to be a vibrant tribute to the cultural legacy of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and a meaningful platform for intergenerational exchange and artistic expression. The general public have been requested to witness this event.
