Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 29 : The Deputy Commissioner (Nicobars), Shri Amit Kale, IAS, visited the Dairy-cum-Fodder Unit managed by the Department of AH&VS in Car Nicobar on Aug. 25. The visit highlighted sustainable agricultural practices and community development initiatives in the region.
During the inspection, DC (Nicobars) commended the Unit’s setup, particularly the use of a portable biogas plant and its role in promoting sustainable farming practices. He advised increasing the number of cows to boost milk production for the local community, enhancing nutritional access. While reviewing the functional incubator, he recommended scaling up operations to support startups and small businesses, fostering economic growth in Car Nicobar.
Following the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner planted fodder and fruit-bearing saplings at the dairy unit in the presence of school children and teachers, promoting environmental awareness and agricultural development. Earlier, he distributed table eggs to secondary and senior secondary school students, joined by members of the Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, to support child nutrition.
The visit underscores the AH&VS Department’s commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture and animal husbandry in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
