Sri Vijaya Puram, 29 August: An Open Badminton Tournament is being organised by the Ambitious Badminton Club Dairy Farm (ABCD) under the aegis of Badminton Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands (BAANI) at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indoor Badminton Court, Dairy Farm. This is the 3rd Badminton Tournament, 2025 by ABCD which is being organised in connection with National Sports Day, 2025 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Hockey Wizard, Major Dhyan Chand from 29th August, 2025 to 07th September, 2025 in six different categories viz Under 15 Boys Singles, Under 19 Boys Singles, Open Women’s Singles, Open Men’s Doubles, Above 35+ Men’s Doubles and Above 50 + Men’s Double.
Mr. Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, Secretary SVPMC, South Andaman was the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony who unveiled the tournament trophies to kick start the event in presence of Mr. Avinash Kumar Singh, President, ABCD, Mr. B Eswar Rao, Vice President, ABCD, Ward Councillors of Ward No. 9, 14, 15 and the members of ABCD.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of ABCD in creating sports awareness among youth of Dairy Farm by organising such a wonderful badminton tournament.
Around 112 players are participating in the tournament with great enthusiasm. In the opening day of tournament Above 35+ Men’s Doubles that played, i.e Harish and Arvind defeated Nakul Dutta and Satish by 21-15, 21-17, Jesudas and Zenpear defeated Jagannad and Thirunavaraksu by 22-20, 21-15.
The finals will be played on 07th September, 2025 followed cash prize, trophies, medals and certificates by prize distribution ceremony.
