Sri Vijaya Puram, July 01: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC) – Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with the School of Nursing, Directorate of Health Services, commemorated World Sickle Cell Day by organizing an insightful awareness program at the CRC Seminar Hall
The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing knowledge and enlightenment, followed by the felicitation of guests with shawls and potted plants. The program was gracefully anchored by Ms. R. K. Saranyah, Rehabilitation Officer, CRC.
In the welcome address, Mr. T. Y. Abid, Lecturer (Physiotherapy), emphasized the need for an integrated and collaborative approach in the management of sickle cell disease. This was followed by a compelling keynote address by Mrs. Sumithamol S., Director, CRC–A&N Islands, who underlined the significance of awareness, early detection, and rehabilitation in combating the long-term challenges of this inherited blood disorder.
The technical sessions provided in-depth knowledge on various dimensions of the condition: Special guest Dr. Sanam Preet Kaur, Centre Head, Goenka Healthcare Academy, discussed the pathophysiology and medical management of sickle cell disease; special guest Mrs. Mitha Biswas, Tutor, School of Nursing, DHS, covered its epidemiology, crisis, and nursing care protocols; and Mr. T. Y. Abid , lec Lect Physiotherpy, CRC presented practical rehabilitation and physiotherapy strategies to improve mobility and quality of life in affected individuals. Finally, Special Guest Mrs Amritha, Tutor, School of Nursing, DHS, guided and presented the posters prepared by the Nursing students of DHS and Laboratory technicians of Goenka health care academy.
The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. G. Ashok, Vocational Instructor, CRC, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers, participants, and support staff for making the event impactful and information.
