Sri Vijaya Puram, May 05: An Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse and Safe Society Building was organized on 3rd May 2025 at Shore Point Gram Panchayat under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The event was jointly organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Police Department (Anti-Narcotics Unit), Health Department, and IRCA. The programme witnessed active participation from local residents and Panchayat members. The session addressed the harmful effects of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, and emphasized how collective community efforts can help in creating a safer and healthier society. Speakers highlighted prevention methods, the importance of awareness, and the role of support systems in tackling substance abuse.
During the interactive session, the public raised concerns regarding the existence of licensed bars and questioned why tobacco is not fully banned. Officials responded by explaining that such matters fall under state-level policy decisions, but the government is making consistent efforts through awareness campaigns, health interventions, and law enforcement to reduce substance abuse. The programme encouraged open dialogue, responded to public queries, and reaffirmed the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in achieving a drug-free and safe community.
