Sri Vijaya Puram, May 05: The much-awaited Free Chess Summer Camp 2025 for school children from Class I to VIII commenced simultaneously this morning across nine educational zones of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, covering eighteen venues from Campbell Bay to Diglipur. The month-long camp, organized by the Department of Education, will run from 5th May to 4th June 2025, offering students a unique opportunity to explore the fundamentals of chess in an engaging and interactive environment.
The camp was officially inaugurated at Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Swaraj Dweep, where Mr. Vikram Singh, Director (Education/Sports), A&N Administration, made the ceremonial first move on the chessboard, symbolically launching the camp. In his address, the Director stated , “Chess is more than just a game—it sharpens the mind, enhances concentration, and builds strategic thinking. This camp is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn, compete, and grow during their summer break.”
With an overwhelming response from parents and students, over 640 students have enrolled in the program, which blends fun, learning, and friendly competition. Each session is led by Master Trainers and includes interactive lessons, hands-on demonstrations, and mini-tournaments, aimed at instilling critical thinking, concentration, and strategic planning skills.
The Chess Summer Camp is being organized at multiple schools across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, covering all nine educational zones. In the Sri Vijay Puram Zone, the camp is being held at GMSSS Aberdeen and GSSS Manglutan. The Wimberlygunj Zone hosts the camp at GMSSS Ferrargunj and GSSS Wimberlygunj. In the Rangat Zone, sessions are taking place at GSSS Oralkatcha, GSSS Kadamtala, GSSS Rangat, and GMS Billyground. The Mayabunder Zone has its venues at GMSSS Mayabunder, GSSS Pahalgaon, and GSS Mohanpur-5. In the Diglipur Zone, the camp is being conducted at GSSS Subhashgram, while Little Andaman Zone is hosting it at GMSSS Hutbay. The Swaraj Dweep has its camp at GSSS Swaraj Dweep, and the Shaheed Dweep at GSSS Shaheed Dweep. In the Car Nicobar Zone, the venue is GSSS Malacca, while the Nancowrie Zone has its sessions at GMS Kamorta. Finally, in the Campbell Bay Zone, the camp is being held at PM SHRI GSSS Campbell Bay.
