Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 25: In a worrying development, residents of Loco Line – Main Road area of Nayapuram, have reported the supply of unbelievably dirty water through the public pipeline network. The water, described as deep brown and visibly unfit for human consumption, has sparked fresh concern just weeks after similar complaints emerged from Kanyapuram area.
According to multiple residents, the dirty water began appearing in their household taps near Loco Line – Main Road area of Nayapuram. The water, described by locals as “killer water,” bears a dark brown color and foul odor—raising fears of serious health implications.
The issue has left the residents distressed and helpless. Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, the Pradhan of the area, Mr. Basheer, expressed his anguish over the repeated negligence of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD). He stated that despite making several appeals to the concerned authorities for ensuring safe drinking water, no concrete steps have been taken.
“This is not just a matter of inconvenience—this is a serious public health hazard,” said Mr. Basheer. “If immediate steps are not taken, this level of negligence can hospitalize hundreds. Our appeals to APWD have gone unheard, and now residents are living in fear of what might come next.”
Previously, a similar situation was reported from Kanyapuram, where similar dirty water through public supply lines had caused a stir. Despite objections from the area’s Pradhan at that time, the issue seems to have been brushed aside without meaningful resolution.
Residents are now urging the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to take swift action. They demand accountability from APWD officials and a thorough investigation into how such dirty water is reaching households. With rising temperatures and increasing water dependence in summer months, ensuring clean and safe drinking water has become more crucial than ever.
