Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 20: ‘Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram’ (RKSK) aims to respond to the health and development requirements of adolescents in a holistic manner. The School Health Programme has been incorporated as a part of the Health and Wellness component of the Ayushman Bharat Programme of Government of India to strengthen the preventive and promotive aspects through health promotion activities.
In the Islands, the Directorate of Health Services has launched the program in all the three districts. The school health promotion activities are being implemented in Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary Government Schools. This is achieved through the joint efforts and close coordination between the Department of Health Services and Department of Education. 121 Schools have been covered in which 1125 School Health & Wellness Messengers have been trained. The health promotion messages on improving health practices are imparted through these students who act as Health and Wellness Messengers.
An interdepartmental meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Secretary (Health) in his chamber on 17/04/2025 regarding School Health and Wellness Program. To recognize and encourage the students, customized T-shirts were given to the School Health & Wellness Messengers by Secretary, Health and Director of Health Services in the presence of Deputy Director (F/W), Deputy Director (Science), Program Coordinator (SHWP) Education Deptt., Joint Secretaries (Health), State Finance Manager, District Programme Manager.
