Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 20: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands U-19 Boys football team showcased an exceptional performance at the 68th SGFI National School Football Championship held in Manipur. A 20-member squad traveled to Imphal, Manipur to participate in the tournament.
The Island team was placed in Pool D alongside Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh. They secured a 1-0 victory against Rajasthan in their opening match on April 15, 2025, with Anuj Aind scoring the decisive goal. In their second match, the team played out an exciting 3-3 draw against Madhya Pradesh. They concluded the league stage with an emphatic 4-1 win over Chandigarh, with Ronaldo netting a hat-trick.
Topping Pool D, the team advanced to the knockout stage. Although they were defeated by Uttar Pradesh in the pre-quarterfinals, this performance marks a significant milestone for the Island’s school football team in recent years.”
