Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 15: On 10/04/2025, the Court of Special Judge under POCSO Act 2012, North & Middle Andaman District, Mayabunder presided over by Mr. Subhajit Basu, has convicted the accused person resident of Talbagan in connection with FIR No. 44/24 dt. 25/08/204 of Kalighat police station for committing sexual offence on a minor girl of 12 years old. The convict is sentenced under section 258(2) of BNSS, 2023 to suffer Simple imprisonment for 03 (three) years and to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten thousand) and in default of payment of fine to undergo simple imprisonment for a term of 02 months for the offence punishable under section 8 of POCSO Act and it is further sentences to suffer simple imprisonment for 01 (One) month for the offence punishable under section 126(2) of BNS, 2023. All the sentences are run concurrently but in the case convict fails to pay fine amount, the sentence of imprisonment will run one after the other.
The investigation of the instant case done by Sub-Inspector Kannagi and Sub-Inspector Inderjeet Singh Bhagel, SHO PS Kalighat with close monitoring of SDPO, Diglipur and under the supervision of Sub-Inspector Ashok Superintendent of Police (D) N & M Andaman District, Mayabunder the State Prosecution was conducted by Mr. Uttam Kirtania, Ld. Govt. Pleader/Addl.P.P./Spl.P.P, Addl. District & Sessions Court, Mayabunder.
