As we commemorate the 62nd National Maritime Day on 5th April, 2025, I extend my warmest greetings to all stakeholders in the maritime community. This year, we celebrate this momentous occasion under the theme “Samriddh Sagar- Viksit Bharat Yevam Neel Arth Aur Harit Vikas Ke Liya Yuva (Prosperous Seas- Developed India and Youth for Blue Economy & Green Growth).”
On this National Maritime Day, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the vast and invaluable oceans that surround us. The theme for this year serves as a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect marine ecosystems while simultaneously harnessing their immense potential for sustainable growth.
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands, as the gateway to the Indo-pacific, hold a strategically significant maritime position. Our administration is dedicated to transforming this region into a global maritime hub through key initiatives including the International Container Transshipment Terminal at Galathea Bay, poised to become one of India’s top container handling ports; the Port Meadows Ship-to-Ship Transshipment Hub, which will strengthen India’s role in global trade; the Deep-Water Port at Atlanta Bay, set to enhance maritime infrastructure and stimulate economic growth; and the Ship Repair and Ship Construction Hub, which will bolster India’s self-reliance in the Indo-Pacific region.
Our responsibility is clear: to protect and preserve the marine environment for future generations. Our opportunity lies in responsibly utilizing our maritime potential to drive economic progress, generate employment and foster regional development.
On this special occasion, I urge all stakeholders-seafarers, maritime professionals and citizens alike to-uphold our collective duty toward the oceans and work together for a prosperous maritime future.
