Port Blair, April 03: A condolence meeting was organized today at Flag Point, Sri Vijayapuram, in memory of Mr. Shahdev Dey, the Chief Editor of Republic Andaman News Channel, who was murdered on March 29, 2025, in Diglipur. The event was led by the Digital Media Organization of Andaman & Nicobar, with journalists and media professionals coming together to pay their respects.
During the ceremony, floral tributes were offered, and a moment of silence was observed as a mark of respect. Journalists present at the event demanded that justice be served and urged the police to investigate the case from all possible angles. The media fraternity emphasized that Mr. Shahdev was not only a hardworking journalist but also a dedicated family man who ran a Common Service Center (CSC) and took on various jobs to support his loved ones.
Speakers at the event highlighted the dangers faced by journalists, including threats, physical assaults, and even the risk of losing their lives. They called upon law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of media professionals and to take stringent action against those responsible for Mr. Shahdev’s murder.
Journalists at the gathering urged the police to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation, bringing all facts to light so that the real reasons behind the crime are made public.
The attendees vowed to stand by Mr. Shahdev’s family, offering their support whenever needed. They also called upon the administration and investigative agencies to ensure that justice is swift and fair.
