Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 30: The investigation related to the case, registered vide FIR No. 111/24 U/s 8(c)/22(c)/23(c)/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, r.w.s. 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946, was initiated at Police Station Crime & Economic Offence, CID, A&N Police following information received from the Indian Coast Guard regarding the apprehension of Six Myanmarese Nationals and the seizure of a huge quantity of methamphetamine on 25/11/24 from Indian territorial waters near Barren Islands. In addition to the seizure, the Six Myanmarese Nationals involved in the case were arrested.
Considering the gravity of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising of IGP (L&O)- Mrs. Sindhu Pillai, IPS, SSP (CID) –Mr. Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, SSP South Andaman- Mr. Manoj Kumar Meena, IPS and SP (Coastal Security/PMF)- Mrs. Niharika Bhatt, IPS was constituted to monitor & investigate the case under the overall supervision of Director General of Police -Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS.
After extensive and thorough investigation, the Chargesheet has been prepared and filed in the Special Court against the six Myanmarese nationals who are presently running in Judicial Custody.
The investigation comprised of collecting multiple electronic evidences and forensic reports including those of Satellite phones & GPS devices. The role of an international drug syndicate operating from the Golden Triangle (near the border of Myanmar, Thailand & Laos) has been established in the investigation. Interrogation of the accused persons revealed an extensive transnational drug smuggling network operated by a syndicate based in Yangon, Myanmar. The network had previously executed similar consignments, including a shipment smuggled to Malaysia in August 2024. The chargesheet has been filed in the Hon’ble Court containing of 2017 Pages.
The chargesheet has been filed against the following accused persons (all Myanmarese nationals):

4. Htet Myat Aung
5. Zin Min Soe
6. Khin Mg Kyi
The charges against them include violations U/s 8(c)/22(c)/23(c)/29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, r.w.s 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and Section 238 of BNS Act, 2023.
This seizure marks one of the largest drug busts in the region, underscoring the growing challenge of transnational narcotics trafficking. The swift interception by the Indian Coast Guard and coordinated efforts by the Andaman & Nicobar Police prevented a substantial quantity of Methamphetamine from reaching international markets.
This successful operation reaffirms the commitment of Indian law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking and safeguarding national security.
